South Foster Volunteer Fire Department Receives Donation at Grand Master’s Visitation
At M∴W∴ Robert B. Ellston's official visitation to the Northern District at Roger Williams Lodge No. 32 on Nov. 13, a very special charitable donation was presented to the South Foster, RI Volunteer Fire Department.
The Town of Forster, RI Fire Department is comprised of several volunteer departments. One of these departments is the South Forster Volunteer Fire Department where W∴ John Kent (Grand Master of Ceremonies for the Northern District) is the Assistant Fire Chief. Town budgets being what they are, the South Forster Volunteer Fire Department relies on various means of raising monies to maintain and equip their individual department.
Recently, they had planned to hold a road race and were asking individuals to sponsor runners as a means of raising some money toward this end. Worshipful John's wife, Connie, mentioned this at a gathering of the Grand Lodge Ladies and the Ladies decided that they would sponsor a runner or two for this worthy cause.
The Ladies raised a total of $500, after which they inquired if Grand Lodge Charities might consider matching through the Charities Matching Grant Program. Grand Lodge Charities not only agreed to match the $500, but saw fit to increase the amount so that the SFVFD ultimately received a total donation of $2000.
